Farm Animal Rescues and owner Surrenders
JET - PLACED!
Jet came to us with some nerve damage from
west nile, but he recovered and quickly
became bored running our pasture and
started 'dogging' the goats. We contacted a
friend of ours that is very experienced with
training working horses and had 40 empty
acres. The friend also had experience bring
horses all the way back from West Nile
damage. Jet is now under saddle again and
working on his footwork. He is loving life and
absolutely loves playing. He begs to go out
under the saddle. Jet is a fairy tale ending.
Although he is happy here, when he met my
friend, he tossed his head under the arm and
started following his wife everywhere. Jet is
now living 4 miles down the road, enjoying
having 40 acres all to himself and especially
enjoying his custom made tack and the
undivided attention of two tall and two short
humans <g>. He still has a rough gait, but
loves working with people.
Sunshine
Sunshine came to us ill from a uterine
infection and underweight. She is
starting to bounce back now that the
infection has been treated and her
willingness to eat has increased. She
is looking forward to a farrier visit in
the next week to trim her hooves. She
was too unsteady at first to have her
hooves picked up. She would start to
fall. Now she is all good on three of
her feet and is only unsteady for the
leg that has navicular. Her other front
leg has laminitis but it is resolving.
She still is leaner than we like by a lot,
but we are slowly adding weight - it is
a struggle with her pain and health
issues though. Her hooves continue
to improve.
Cross the rainbow bridge
from Cancer
You can see the problem was more
serious in the front. Notice the
shortened hoof and inner twist on
the right front this is symptomatic of
Navicular. The tendon was also
shortened to the point the mare
was unable to straighten her leg.
The other hoof was far too long
leading to laminitis that was
compounded by internal infections.
The left picture was after her first
trim and the right is after 2 months
worth. She is being kept on soft
sandy soil which is hiding the
amount of trimming on the right
hoof

Note the amount of straightening in
the leg and the healthier muscle

Lucky
Lucky came to us from another rescue that had to let him go and
his story is a sad one. Lucky came from the 45 ranch and can
trace his bloodline back to the best QH foundation lines. He is a
pure working QH, or at least he used to be. At the age of 20 after
almost 2 decades of work, he injured his leg. Instead of
medicating it, he was discarded. By the time his rescuer got a
hold of him his left knee was the size of a grapefruit from
calcification and the fastest he could move was a painful trot. A
woman had bought him and would dope him up with Bute to put
her children on him to ride before the rescuer took him in. Now he
has come to us, we have managed to reduce his leg to about half
the size it was before and he is moving easier.
Went to be a
pasture pal

Bo Now in a forever home!
Bo has a good story. He is a wonderful, paint boy
who was well loved when he came to us. His owner
took great care of him. Bo is a gelding who was
altered at 6 years of age so sometimes he forgets
<g>. He smiles a lot and gives kisses. He especially
loves the ladies. Bo has a strain on one of his legs,
so we are asking nothing of him right now other than
letting us pet him and groom him. He deserves it all -
just ask him! Here is is discussing with CC who is the
fairest in the land.

Bo went to a friend of ours to work with his kids -
nothing to tough or long. He is a good boy and well
loved

Before and after rescue
He is a nice turkey now
My husbands birthday we
received an SOS from another
rescue. A HUGE seizure of
animals was happening and the
farm animals did not have a
home. We took in a little over 50
poultry 9 goats, 18 ringnecks
parakeets in one day. A week
later the 22 water fowl, all the
ringnecks, 7 of the goats and
some of the chickens were
placed. The more battered
poultry are now finding homes. :)
